Turn signal bulb removal

hi guys,

how does one remove the turn signal bulbs? i physically removed the turn signals and they contained one single bulb. are the bulbs twist on or simply pushed in place? i tried twisting and ended up separating the glass portion and metal portion of the bulb (metal portion still in the housing) - driver side. i then tried simply pulling it out and same thing happened, glass and metal separated...on the passenger side. help!

Obviously, they've become corroded. They push in, turn, and pull out.

You'll need needle nose pliers now. I'd lube the remnants with some kind of spray lubricant before I tried to remove them, then use fine sandpaper to smooth the receptacles before you put new bulbs in.

I have also had this problem.

I took the opportunity to rehab the whole lens, reflector body and connections.

I drilled out the rivets that hold the lens to the body, by doing this it allowed me to clean and polish the lens, re-paint the reflector body with some good chrome paint, clean all connections and replace the bulbs.

Put it all back together, they look like new and a ton brighter.

I used a good fiberglass polish on the lens, it took off all the sun damage and really shined them up.

Good luck.

Anything you want, all you have to do is try.

This is a simple process that is a bit hard to describe to someone who has not done it before.

You should have a look at a bulb outside of the housing to help you understand how the bulb comes out. If you have US lamps (amber lens that sticks out from the body of the car), you will have dual filament 1157, (so-called bayonet mount) bulb. See attached image I borrowed from an Internet source.

The way it works is that the bulb mounts in a flat "housing," and there is a springy thing that completes the circuit between the bulb and the contacts on the bottom, which also pushes the bulb against the housing to hold the bulb in place and create a ground path between the bulb barrel and the housing. The two pins on the bulb (see pic) fit through slots in the bulb housing when you rotate the bulb- the springy bulb contact in the lamp housing should help push the bulb out when you rotate it. When you are trying to remove the bulb, it helps to push the bulb in a bit when you rotate, to relieve pressure between those pins and the bulb housing. Sounds like you may not have done that... it is easy to twist the glass part of the bulb loose from the barrel if there is too much pressure or friction on the barrel when you twist.
