No, you are OK with Steve (Blunt)... Good prices, great service, and that's definitely stuff he can get you ! I don't think anybody's got anything less than good to say about Steve's service ;-) It sur ebeats digging things up in a catalog, getting parts #, he does all that for you !

Frenchee,

Hard to believe all those seals are bad. Show us some photos of where the water damage is located. Most likely have one leak and it is finding a path to other areas.

The cheapest parts are most likely your local dealer. Ask them for a discount, they will give it to you. BUT you may have to do some of the work yourself, meaning finding parts numbers for more obscure parts unless the person behind the desk is an old timer. I get my parts at BMW SF and although the two babes are nice to look at they don't know anything about older cars and are generally useless. Luckily there is an old timer in the back who helps me when I'm stuck. Most parts come in 2 days (you won't find nearly anything in stock), 5-7 days from East Coast or Germany. No shipping, easy returns.

Use this site to find parts and numbers for your 02. Use your vin so it give you the correct information:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/

Ignore the pricing. I have never found it to be correct, usually higher than other sources.

If you don't want to do any of the leg work, go with someone like Steve, BLUNT is his login. His prices have never been lower than my local dealer and then shipping on top of it doesn't make him a good solution for me, but he has a huge number of fans on this site who he has helped. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people write a post saying "Hey Steve I need that thingy under the dash to the left of the hole by the door" and he appears to know exactly what they need.

I'm also a fan of Maximillian's for parts online

http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/

There are sellers who you should avoid at all costs and you will find them listed under a couple of different sections on this site.

I second the recomendations for Steve aka BLUNT, RealOem and Maximillian. Also BavAuto.com.

Two books you ought to get: A decent shop manual - the Haynes is most common and probably best general manual except for the rare and pricy orignal BMW blue manuals. there are others - Clymer, Chilton, and they're not bad either. I've tried to get as many different ones as I can as each is better at some things than others

Get a copy of Mike Macartney's book, the '02 Restoration Guide. Even if you're not "restoring" your care per se, the book is full of good info.

There is also a "Links" button at the top the page on this site, and two over from that is the "Forum Search"

And Welcome!

Thanks for all the great info guys and especially for that diagram.

So I contacted blunt and hopefully I don't need all those seals or else Im going to be working hard to buy them. Never thought they would cost so much for what I feel is just rubber haha!

I'm going to the DMV to register the car. Ill take pictures when I get back.

Frenchee,

What year is your car? Do you have a sunroof?

The back windshield gasket needs replacing, but is it responsible for all that water, it could be, but might be something else. I'm wondering if one of your air vents is clogged? I would remove the back seat, remove the back panels and then run some water over the back window, should be obvious pretty quickly if that is the problem. Do the same over the rear side windows to assess for a leak.

If the back glass needs a new gasket, you actually need three parts:

1. Gasket. It is highly recommended that you buy OEM rubber. Many folks have lamented their decision to buy it cheaper. Don't assume that the online bmw sources are selling OEM, ask first.

2. Sealing/retaining rubber. In your picture it is the hard rubber ring running down the middle of the gasket, new they are shiny silver but oxidize over time to brown/black

3. Cup/Cover. This is a small 4cm silver clip that goes over the ends of the sealing rubber to give it a finished look.

I recently paid about $200 bucks for all three. Use your vin to find the correct part numbers at Maximillians and to check their price. Do the same with your local dealership (ask for the discount) and BLUNT.

If you are installing yourself, use the search function on this site to find the many posts on how to do this. You can also go to one of the two Pick N Pulls near your home and have one of the window folks install. I'm told that they have charged between $50 and a $100 in the past.

Frenchee,

I just tossed a set of used coco mats in the garbage!, I have other used stuff that I need to divest myself of, there are no use to me, you are welcome to look at my stash - other than tii stuff - you can have, the only caveat is that you have to come to Hollister during the week, and look for yourself - email me if this is something that may appeal to you.

Hmmm. I think you might have gotten confused. I took a picture of the windshield gasket not the back one. They back one seems fine . I hate how these damn things are so expensive for fixing a windshield haha

Oh dont worry I got a brand new carpet kit waiting in my garage!

I want to get rid of the leaks before putting it in though :(

That sounds really interesting. Right now what im missing that I can easily see.

Side mirrors.

Gaskets :(

The wooden panels under the dash all got soaked so they tore off.

This rubber seal that goes over the pedal box came right off when taking the carpet out so now u can see inside the pedal box.

Some new fuel hoses.

The rubber strut housing or w.e for inside the hood.

I doubt you would have those haha but I might be able to drop by and pick up some things if you say you might have something interesting. Thanks for the help. I shall send an email

Frenchee - when you remove the glass,

you'll fine rusted metal lurking underneath

from the decades of traped water and fine dirt

eating away the window opening

Same for your rear window - trust us

start sanding, filling, priming, painting now because

this job take a L O N G time to finish

more photos please

Ill take more photos when I get some time. Im super busy right now. Sorry!

So your saying that the water gets trapped and eats away at the metal and thats why theres a big leak?

That makes sense.

Would I need to do some welding?
