tranny mount replacement

Users have mentioned in the archives if your going to replace the tranny mount to get one for a e21 and drill the hole bigger. Is the e-21 better, bigger than the one for the 2002?

Found that my fan is less than 1/8" from the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side and may have scrubbed. Going to check motor mounts, tranny mounts, etc. but was wondering if I bought a new tranny mount, would the e-21 be better.

Also going to look at electric fans as some have mentioned, but since this has A/C and already a fan in front, not sure if I can mount another one fan?

Any advice or tips?

thanks

Ron

The one from the E-21 is in fact bigger than the ' 02 tranny support, and I have one on my ' 75. But, having said that, we recently had the mount on my wife's ' 76 checked out and it's fine. This is after 33 yrs. and 120K miles on it, so, how much more substantial do you need? Would a stock ' 02 mount that lasts that long be enough for you, or are you planning on having your ' 02 longer than that?

I swapped in the mount for the e21 and it seems better to me. The stock one is a tiny little thing and mine was worn to almost nothing when my fan and my radiator met. It was simple to drill out and I'm happy with it. BTW, the e21 mount did not come with nuts so be prepared to get some for it.

Also check that your passenger side mount has the "stopper" on it. A metal plate that goes under the mount and has a curled end to stop the motor from moving forward. I've seen a bunch of cars running without them but that is what really stops your motor from killing the radiator.

In my opinion save your money and time on the electric fan thing. Renewing the mounts should give you perfect performance from your exsisting fan without messy wiring, relays, new switches and a big PITA. Just my 2 cents.
