Wiring harness reproduction

Recommended Posts

A member of another group & vehicle had the complete harness reproduced to specs for another vehicle I have. I was wondering if this has been done for the Tii.

I can't see a bare bones restore with old wiring used. What do you guys do or has it been reproduced already and I haven't seen it.....

Any electrical wizards in here that are capable of this task....

It can be done at a reasonable cost with instructions, diagrams, all connectors and such even to include year specific changes for various year differences.

Thanks Bill,

What is the Painless kit. Actually I don't need to know if it isn't correct.

So there is no correct reproduction out there then.

I can contact the Company in Cali that did ours. I don't have a clean/unhacked example to start with until I get mine out. Then I would need you gurus input as to make the various year mods and all that is needed to make it a smooth replacement.

The ones we have were done right and a lot of time and energy to ensure correctness. They go in without a hitch. They have to as they run inside of the rockers to get to the rear. (Major pain)

I just want to get prepared for when it does happen and not be trying to pull it off at the last moment.

tell the class what your cost was for that harness pictured above ?

and a question for folks here - what would you pay

for a 02 harness ?

things to consider:

emission control wiring

fuel injection wiring incl dash clock

carb model wiring

wiring for duel-horns and fog lights.....

6 vs 12 fuse cars

RealOEM indicates that front harnesses are still available from BWM.

01 CABLE HARNESS SECTOR FRONT REGLER EXTERN 1 03/1971 12/1974 61111352915 $148.94

01 CABLE HARNESS SECTOR FRONT REGLER INTERN 1 04/1971 12/1974 61111355799 $572.42

Quite a difference in price. Does anyone know the differences between the two listed?

Hi Cd.

I would have to look but I think it was 450.

I would pay what it takes to get a correct harness for a restore. I just don't see going through what it takes for a restore & using 40 year old wiring.

The things to consider you mentioned are what I was talking about with you gurus input. We would need the knowledge and expertise of all you guys to ensure it was correct.

All features & accessories options can be added. On the one pictured duel horns, fogs & modern stereo were added for the non purist.

Along with the early push button & later manual controls to include the early 6 & later 12 volt changes.

I'm just checking to see if there is a correct repo out there, if not when I go through my resto I will have it reproduced.

I would buy a universal wiring kit and modify it to what I need.

It is all that hard to do a proper job, just time/labor consuming. if it's still relatively intact and undamaged I would not bother redoing everything, just replacing complete loops like I did with half of my underhood wiring (not properly color coded of course).

Wild guess for the price difference: one of them hasn't yet been reproduced by BMW Classic. Meanwhile, the RealOEM prices are probably out of date. Bell BMW says -915 is supersceded by -799, and the price is $572 list, $458 net. That means -915 is NLA; if it ever comes back, it will be expensive.
