Euro Bumpers for the USA

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I recently did a bumper swap on my '74 3.0 CS coupe. For the front I used a mount of my own design. I believe this same system will work on the '74 and later 2002 as well as the Bavaria. It would be great to get some feed back. Does someone have a 2002 bumper shock loose so as to take some measurements for me? I have 5 sets in stock at this time, $100.00 / set which is my costs for materials only

Cheers'

Al:

The bracket is common to the 2002, e3, e9 and e21 but the shock is not. Maybe your design takes this into account.

If we learn from our mistakes does that mean I have to make them all?

Yep,

Looks like it is the same part for the shock on all the USA DOT cars. No issue for you Doug, but thanks for the research! This means the mount can make more cars in the fleet more classy, as bumpers seem to have out lasted bodies. Three sets (of the last run of five) are sold at this point, all E9 guys. The only issue I can see is to where the original frame bolts (re-used for this modification) will line up relative to the new tubes. This is why I do not pre-drill these holes. One must assemble and get the fit square, scribe the hole location, disassemble for final and drill the holes to frame position.

EZ stuff and can be done in an afternoon.

Cheers,

Looks like quite a few vehicles this system will work with. Just need a brave 2002 guy to give it a try. Less than the cost of a good dinner or the same as a high end lunch! Beats doing a full front end sheet metal replacement. Only the truly anal would bitch about the result. This is not concourse stuff, and a "cheater" way to go. Not for the "numbers matching" crowd. but for us on a budget, with a "B" car as it were, a solution that can be done at home.
