Thanks everyone for the N.K. photos!

That 1800 Ti looks stunning btw!

That car looks cleaner and straighter than one I found with an original 40K on it, in Redbank N.J. in the late 80's.

Thanks for all the info. I see now that the Neue Klasse is a predecessor to the 2002...but with four doors.

But is the NK also to the 5 series what the 2002 is to the 3 series?

I see it as the 1600/2002 was the follower! LOL! I'm only kidding!

To your 2nd part, the 2500-2800-Bavaria started the inline 6, that was followed by the E-12 and then improved upon with the E-28.

While not 100% gospel, years ago I read that with the E-3 , BMW was starting to try to take on, or at the least start to realy challenge the Mercedes-Benz market.

Back to the NK's, those cars (to me atleast) were as fun, if not funner than the 1600/2002.

They handled as good and in my opinion rode much nicer than the 1600/2002. If I recall they were 5" wider, 1" taller and about 1 ft. longer than the 1600/2002 but seemed so much bigger inside. they also weighed about 500lbs more than the smaller, less appointed 2 doors.

They were safe cars to, I rolled my first because some guy in a black Ford F150 miss judged my speed! LMAO!

Any way the guy didn't even give me enough time to brake all the way, he just pulled out of a side street and more or less what happened was I hit the trucks left rear corner with my left front corner. There was no where to turn on a tree lined road, single lane and no shoulder.

To make a long story short, my hood stood straight up and I spun on him like a pivot, some how ending up backwards hitting a telephone pole with the 2000 on it's left side, I asked my buddy if he was OK and we both kicked out the windshield to make our escape!

That car sold me on BMWs in more ways than one!

Oh and to leave nothing out, the F-150 after a minute just left the scene.

Sorry, forgot to include that to this very day I drive my 535IS with the Tilux badge from my 1st in the glove box at all times, kinda like a good luck charm!

Yes, the NK ended production as the E12 came in, in 1972 in Europe.

The 2000CS is a coupe version of the NK......

Much of the E9 2800CS and 3.0CS structure from the firewall to the floors and rear suspension is NK. Lift the rear seat bottom of an E9 and you will find the curved structure for the NK seat in the floor.

The E3 2800 3.0s and Bavaria sedans are very different cars but basically similar front structure as E9 coupes.

The E9 coupes share front suspension with the E3 sedans.

The E3 is the predecessor to the 7-series....

Just a little history lesson..... :)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
