Rainy day, going to do some work on my car, came across this classic photo -awesome pic I think. I had someone recently contact me from Sweden, sent me a number of pics of a re-creation of the 1973 factory rallye car (Waldergard), Schnitzer motor and all. Will be posting up some of those pics in the not too distant future to my Schniter 20,4 Blog. Also sent me a PDF of the Motor Nord ALPINA catalogue from 1974 - very interesting, ALPINA had the catalogue part for the 4-valve engine (ALPINA engine ..."on top of which a Schnitzer cylinder head was used 37,000 DM back then. Over the next few weeks will be adding in new content to all the blogs.

Thanks for the great pic! The one wth the Cosmics appears to be a "street" car.

Interesting variation on the normal Colorado/Schwarz paint theme on the car on the right. I had never seen one with the red stripes on the hood.

"Street" car???

I got your "street" car right here at the Press-On-Regardless Rally back in 1971 when they were trying to get International sanctioning.

The Cosmic MkII style wheel is as classic and as durable as the highly-touted Minilites of the day.

If you check out the design, you'll find it reappears in IndyCar Racing and BBS competition wheels for the next four decades.

Edit: For those of you who are unfamiliar with this picture, it's the March, 1972 edition of R&T. The picture is credited to photographer Gero Hoeschek and was taken during a special press stage pror to the actual rally. The driver is Erhard Dahm and co-driver John Campbell. It is uncertain as if Campbell actually co-drove during the rally. Tom Grimshaw is listed as a competitor.

Oops! Sorry about that. In 1972 I was a pimply-faced HS sophomore riding a bike, so what do I know...

It's ok.

Let's just hope you are no longer a pimply-faced HS sophmore and have since graduated to your senior year.

:)
