I was looking at my intake, factory one, and realized that it is not really designed well. Like you will see on many engines the plenums, runs, are equal length. On the 02 mainfold the inner two are substantially shorter than the outer 2. As we all know, the more identical we can get each cylinder to operate, ie temp, mass(balance) etc the more hp and better overall operation. The inner 2 on a stock manifold look to get a more dense mixture and the outer 2 a bit leaner.

i thought about making a new manifold then i saw what i think is called a megasquirt manifold? All runs the same length etc. It looked almost identical to the manifold I was drawing up. It is for injection and can very easily have a carb mount welded on, vacuum lines added etc.

before I reinvent the wheel, has anyone ever tried this?

Designing and constructing a manifold from scratch is a very ambitious undertaking. How much of a torque and horsepower increase would you expect to gain by doing this? Are you working with any specific formulas for the inside diameter and overall runner lengths? What is the working range of your project engine? Would you cast the manifold yourself or contract with a foundry? Have you ever taken on a project like this before?

I agree with the previous poster. The newer manifolds were designed to flow air and NOT a combined air and fuel mixture.

Details?

If only intake manifold design were so simple. Maybe you can post a copy of your design?, , How much, if any, research have you put into this subject? Setting aside space and aesthetics, what power, torque and rpm ranges are you attempting to satisfy? Many different factors need to be considered in manifold design other than just manifold runner lengths. These include: carb selection; runner length and shape; runner diameters: divider plates and placement; different cylinder operating temperatures; cylinder pressure wave pulsing; plenum (as distinct from runner) shape and size; and manifold stove placement.

"Back in the day" Offenhauser developed several manifolds for inline four cylinder engines. Notice that these examples below did NOT use equal length runners, and according to you, they must be a bad design, too. LOL

Another "questionable" dual plane two barrel design by Offenhauser? LOL

not designed well? really? are you qualified to make such a conclusion?

are you having anxiety issues again?
