Stalling Issue

All--

My 73 2002tii will randomly just cut out when I first start it up (and for about 20 minutes after first startup). It doesn't happen all the time, and it kind of goes away after it's been running for 20 minutes. So when it's warmed up I never have the issue.

The car will just cut out, and when I'm driving it just dies. Pull over, crank a bit, starts back up and like I said, once I'm running over 20-30 minutes or so it never re-appears.

Any ideas on what to look for here? It's a tii.

Thanks for any help.

Hard to say without more info. How does it start up on cold mornings - does the idle go properly up to 1500 or so and then drop back down to 900-1000 after warmed up (20 min)?

It's possible the warm up regulator is not set properly, causing improper mixture until it's warm. Here is an older thread on it:

http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,0/page,viewtopic/topic_view,threads/p,279780/t,267292/

Also, do the basic check of linkages (should not be any slop), plugs, rotor/cap, leaky cold start valve, fuel filter, valve adjustment - basically give it a tune up if it hasn't been done in a while.

This a new problem or happen after a specific event?

Thanks Jason. Yes it does seem to start normally - higher RPM then drop back down. It has been doing this off and on for a year, but I've owned it for 2 and it was tuned up when I bought it. So I'll run through the other items, too and check your link.
