DOH! Wheel bearing race install

fahost

Recommended Posts

So I got the races out. Cleaned up the hub for the new races. Using bearing race installer, I drive in the inner race. Cool. I setup the bearing race for the outside race. I find out the bearing race adapter is larger then the hub inside diameter. This is the smallest bearing race adapter, believe it says No1.

Did I get the wrong size bearing race adapter, or is there another trick? Another person suggested using a home depot pvc coupler to drive it in too.

Thanks

use the old race it happens to be the same size as the bearing race your trying to install... turn it over and drive the bigger side against the smaller side of the new race and drive it in i have done it this way every time i have drivin in the smaller race.

I usually just use big sockets in the press...

but back when I was a starving student with a POS car and no tools,

a (carefully wielded) punch could do the deed.

I'm about to endeavor into replacing the brakes on mine for the first time and figure I'll swap out the bearings while I'm at it.

Is the 2002 anymore difficult than any other car? Any other things I should be mindful of?

Thanks!

This was my first attempt. I think the archives pretty much cover the topic.

Tips:

Use the wheel to remove the rotor.

Read about how to tighten the hub nut.

If you use a bearing driver, make sure your No1 is not 1.565. Harbor freight has a No1 that is 1.555, this probably would work.

Bleed the brakes in this order: upper, inner, and outer
