I have a 1973 02, in search of a bit of help/guidance. The horizontal "black" covers that are in place, where the originally, "flat black" or "glossy black” and mine are faded? I'm working on the trying to get the correct look. Anybody know the answer? Or does it make any difference? Owner choice?

I have a '73 and the slats are/were satin black. The slat covers are available, but are insanely expensive. A trick you might try is to cut strips of electrician's tape and carefully press them over the fronts of the slats. You'd be surprised how good it looks.

I painted my with SEM trim paint, which is a nice satin black and pretty durable. I primed the areas first with a self-etching primer.

Just do a good job taping up the areas not to be painted and they will come out fantastic.

p.s. Don't forget new corner reflectors to complete the look.

Originals were more flat than Satin but tended to get chipped up pretty bad as well as fade. Salt made it worse. I painted mine with Satin black Plastikote out of an aerosol. Holding up nicely so far, and easily retouched.

Hooked on 2002 since my first one bought new in 1972
