Funny Little Bavauto.com Mufflers

So, I called Bavarian Autosport to ask about the brand of the stock replacement muffler that they offer for $80 on their website. After telling me that it's a Bosal (seems about right for the price), he tells me that they have an Ansa and a Scorpion muffler for sale as well.

Now, I know I don't want an Ansa, so I ask about the Scorpion. he tells me that his boss has one on his 02 and that it sounds really nice....not too raspy or anything. He also tells me that it's a full stainless steel piece; top quality.

Sounds good. How much?

$419.95

I ask if he means for a downpipe-back system.

He says that that's just for the muffler and reminds me that it's a full stainless piece.

I declined the offer.

It's still not bad compared to the Stebro system. Now that's expensive! $1250.00 from the downpipe back.

I paid around $250 for my rear Supersprint 8 years ago. They no longer make it due to the low demand for one of the best sounding aftermarket performance mufflers for '02s ever.

You are comparing apples to oranges when you compare a finely crafted classic European brand name bolt in exhaust to Ireland's multi piece weld in setup. Not to bang on Ireland's stainless system, but don't you still have to pay someone to weld it in straight or do it yourself? As stainless as the parts may be many muffler shops do not use stainless wire when welding. If they do it costs more.

When you compare the cost of properly welding Ireland's system in to the bolt in of an old Supersprint or Scorpion.

I do love Ireland's stainless downpipe though.

Borla used to make a '02 system and are interested in a group buy if anyone feels like putting it together. A shop like Ireland may want to look into this.

Ireland's is not a weld-in setup but just a simple slip joint. Slip joints are pretty annoying, but you can easily install it at home.

Huh, well that makes better sense. I thought I'd heard of guys having them welded up. Oh well, you learn new things every day.
