Steering Play

Is the steering wheel tight on the steering shaft? Pull the horn button and look inside there.

Maybe the bolts holding your steering column have loosened a bit. Crawl under the dash and wiggle the steering and see if something's come loose. The PO of my car must have decided to reduce weight and left a couple of the bolts out. I'd rather have them all in there, myself.

A serious surprise may be in your future if there are loose parts in the steering column. I'd get to the bottom of it soon.

Does not sound like a steering box adjustment issue.

The steering column is supposed to be preloaded on install. You'll need a helper to push down hard on the steering wheel while you tighten the bolts at the flex disc under the hood. At least I think that's how it's done. Check your Haynes - I beleive it's described there.
