1974 BMW Tii on eBay with 29K Miles

Currently on eBay, this "Golf" Tii has some suspicious attributes. The "original" Golf paint looks too yellow, but it could be the light. The car looks very showroom fresh accept for the VIN plate. The front seats don't look quite right for a stock 74. It hasn't met its reserve at $17K, so we'll see where it ends up. Anyone know this car or the owner Ron Perry?

I know Ron Perry quite well...... He has owned/sold some of the finest BMWs in the country. He is first rate in my book. He has an eye for detail that a very few people have.

I also happen to know the car, and the owner.... He is on this board quite a bit. This car IS flawless. It IS all original. It IS a great car to see in person. Someone with an appreciation for "perfect" original cars is going to purchase this car and be VERY VERY happy.

Good Luck Guys!

I know Ron quite well. He is the former owner of my Euro M5 and I sold my E34 M5 to him. He is a straight guy with lots of depth in the marque. Paul Cain acted as a reference for him when I bought my car and he is well known in concours circles. He is brokering this car. If you have questions, why don't you just contact him directly. I personally find it offensive that you question the car and his integrity in an open thread without contacting him first. And, it is 27.9k not 29k.

More former BMW's than it is possible to list.

To chime in, yes the car is completely legitimate - Ron Perry is well known and well respected (and a great guy) in the SoCal BMW community, and I only wish I had a car nice enough for his time, which is valuable. The current owner of the car is also well known and well respected (also a great guy), and he takes care of BOTH of his 02's to a level that I can only dream of. A lot of SoCal folks know this car and shake their head at just how unbelievably nice and original it is. This is a very rare chance to get one of the nicest tii's that will EVER be available. Since I don't have a garage it would be sinful for me to even bid for it, this car has been pampered. Although it seems a garage queen, it has gotten some (very few) miles driven in, it looked great at Bimmerfest last year, and the tii has been a regular participant of our drives. Whatever it gets it will be worth every penny.

Yep, I corrected myself! Two golf tii's on ebay at the same time. Gee, which is nice? ;-)

I know the owner (of the NICE one) too and have seen the car. It's a beaut!

I love the way they masked off...

Oh, and the interior is... "special."

Cheers,

Ray

Wrong car Ray.

I know both Ron Perry (good guy) and the car itself. This Tii really is a VERY nice, unmolested, low miles, pretty much original car. In the Collector Car world, I'm guessing this car would be called a "survivor" and any age-related degradation would be called "patina".

BTW - The current owner is an '02 enthusiast who frequents the FAQ.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
