FOUND: Getrag 245 O.D. 5-speed trans

I am eventually going to upgrade to a 5 speed transmission in Celeste and need a 245 O.D. unit in good condition. I'm working with Rob Torres on one of his 5-speed kits and am looking for a valid trans from a pre-83 E21.

Would prefer a local pickup in the VA/MD/DC area but will accept shipment via truck/UPS.

Is the Metric Mechanic "ultimate" gearbox worth the $?? Anyone sent their 245 to MM for a rebuild?

MM stuff has a good rep . . . not for the budget minded, however.

02Monster has one. He's proud and likes to talk about it..

2002 newbie, and dead serious about it.

installed there in KC in the mid-80s and loved it. I last drove it from TN to VA to sell for him in Sep 2001 (a guy in Newmarket bought it).

There was no question about their quality in the 80s and 90s, but more grumbling since then. Don't know if it had to do with Jim Blanton leaving, or if they were turning out too many units.

If you pickup a used e21, you can ask Kevin if he might be willing to store it for you at Artisan.

I used www.car-part.com to locate my 5spd. If you are lucky, you might find a yard willing to ship.

I just ran a search and it looks like there is one semi-local over outside of Waldorf for $350.

Thanks to an eBay tip from Arden K, I purchased a 245 tranny for $ 315.00 from a seller in PA. Supposedly has less than 100K miles on it.

Lots of bright silver spray paint, but it looks in good shape. Original E21 parts included (will not be used). I plan to replace all the seals. I have recently purchased most of the conversion parts from Rob Torres of 2002 Haus and look forward to completing the swap this winter (THANKS ROB).

The tranny has multiple weird "MW" marks stamped on the housing - anyone here know about this? Could this be the markings of a previous rebuilder?

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
