Another POLL: What would you like to see in the FAQ by 02/02

Im talking about features OF the site, not just FAQ topics. Project pages, image hosting, what??!! Of course we are limited by our meagre budget, but some things take more time than money.

As far as the FAQ section itself, I plan on getting MANY new articles up for the first year anniversary. Also our links section will be up by then hopefully.

Finally, NOW is the time to start cracking on the writeups of all the things you got done over the summer, etc. It could be something small or a huge full-car renovation. Get all your hard work FAQ'd!!

I think the "Poll" section showing all the photos of cars should be named something more intuitive. Like "Photo Gallery", FAQ 2002 Pictures, etc. I know the Poll was originally started to take photos, poll questions and the like off the discussion forum, but I think a lot of people don't know what "Poll" means when they see it on the list.

I know, its trivial, but you asked!! 8-)

While you're at it Rob, how about making the polls user updatable, like the 'profiles' found on other websites. (classmates.com, match.com, etc) That way we can get our kicks updating our progress/pics at our own pace, and save you the trouble of having to do all typing and footwork. If it's feasible...

On a political tangent...how 'bout declaring a truce, burrying the hatchet, break some bread, or whatever it takes, with the roadflies, so there's a more productive community of enthusiasts, without the wierd little blow ups, freak outs, flame contests, etc. that occur from time to time that only wind up alienating and annoying most of the neutral parties...(Although I must admit I love seeing the creativity of your psuedonyms when you post over there! :) ) 'Tis the season afterall...

Just a few of my thoughts...

I'll do a sweet layout on DIY rear disc brakes, as DS02 and I still have at least 3 cars to upgrade. I'll definitely have to invest in a better camera!

Personally, i have nothing against roadfly. I was never banned, and most of my messages were never removed. Some people get frustrated with that. I just leave is alone. We are just two sources of information for people to use. they are covering all BMWs and we are trying to get as much info as we can about one.

The future poll will have the functionality for updating and posting information. it should be pretty cool, unless it gets abused and we get crap. Since i will not be creating or requering any login information it will either be all are allowed or we'll have to go through a moderator.

1. I want the site to remember an HTML signature for me. This is separate from the Link URL, Link Title, and Image URL which should be used for the posts, not the sig. That way we can really tell if someone posted a picture or a link.

2. A read counter. I know this slows down the site but it is useful to know how many people read your post.

3. I second the idea of a User Profile instead of the current 'Poll'.

4. Here is something I am willing to help with. A photo tour of a 2002. This should be done for an early car, a roundtail, and a squaretail, all in mostly stock form. Photograph every angle and nook and cranny of the car and annotate it so you know where the shot was taken and what you are looking at. This would eliminate a lot of posts asking to see things.

I'd really like it if we had a faq's/how to section for stuff thats typically done to/for 02's...kind of like on unofficialbmw.com...

a section that would list the problems/typical things people see or have and then things to look at to fix those problems...

how about if we take the list of movies w/02's in it, list them out, and have a link to amazon to buy them (and i think if you set up a partnership w/amazon we get a kickback for the sales?)

Hi Rob, bored of hearing myself say it, but I'll do

the e21 rack swap FAQ at some point this

millennium..

1/ FAQ on wheel sizes and off sets would be great,

and also drive a lot of traffic from Road Fly as it's a

perpetual question....

2/ .....as is "what bits can I use from an e21" - you'd

think people would learn to search the archives,

but if we could point them here even better.

3/ Don't know if this is cost prohibitive with the size

of the server space that would eventually be

required, but a photo library we could up load to

would be great. Something like bmw2002.com

(which is great, but I'm sure us sad bastards have

seen all the pics a couple of times by now), but we

could all add to it. Picture speaks a 1,000 words

and all that.

I'm sure if you put forward a proposal and asked

for a voluntary donation to acheive it you'd get the

dollars rolling.

Happy 02ing and keep up the awesome work.

Nick

Talking of a 'useful items from an e21' FAQ – how

about this for a start? Add, amend, whatever, it’s a

dead simple one so I thought I’d get the ball

rolling....

The e21 is a great source for parts and upgrades

for the 2002. There's also no harm in killing off an

ugly sibling in the name of survival!

From front to back:

1/ Radiator - good upgrade and cheaper than a

new one.

2/ Alternator - ditto.

3/ Steering wheel from a Sports Pack car - this is

very similar to the wheel fitted to the turbo, bolts

straight up and only requires a little modification

for the horn pick up.

4/ Recaros - bolt right up and are a common

upgrade.

5/ Sunvisors, bolt right up.

6/ Rear view mirror, same fitting.

7/ 5 speed OD gearbox - see separate FAQ

8/ LSD - see separate FAQ

9/ Alpina style wheels – these don’t have the

correct off set, but if you haven’t lowered your

should work OK.

10/ ...
