If you don't have the hard copy ATE parts books (which have greater detail) you can always get size info from their online catalog

start here:

http://www.contiteves-am.com/generator/www/start/index_ate_de.html

then pick "Catalogues" >> "Replacement parts online"

Where you give the 37 mm size for VW rear pistons, for search purposes can you state which model that is true for?

Lots of Golf/Jetta Mk II rear calipers are 38 mm, including these:

VW - JETTA Mk II (19E, 1G2) - 1.8 08.86-01.90

VW - GOLF Mk II (19E, 1G1) - 1.8 GTI 08.83-10.91

VW - CORRADO (53I) - 1.8 16V 04.89-07.92
