OSP trooper nabs six exotic cars -- at once! -- racing across state

by Joseph Rose, The Oregonian

Thursday April 23, 2009, 7:32 PM

OSPState Trooper David Peterson pulled over six high-octane sports cars at once near Grand Ronde this morning. Another trooper caught one of the same cars speeding in the The Gorge a couple hours later.

Sheesh! These kids and their speed racers these days!

Actually, Oregon State Police say the drivers of six exotic sports cars stopped for racing along Oregon 18 near Grand Ronde this morning were all grown men, some in their late 40's, from Washington and Canada on an annual road trip.

And apparently one ticket wasn't enough for one of the drivers. Two hours after getting dinged near Grand Ronde, one of the same cars - a yellow Lamborghini -- was stopped for speeding in the Columbia River Gorge near Multnomah Falls.

The first incident was like something out of a Vin Diesel "Fast and Furious" flick . . .

They should've thrown the idiots in jail on the spot and impounded the cars, since they obviously have no respect for the law or the safety of other drivers. Fines only do any good against people that can't afford them. For others its just a pocket change toll to continue to be stupid.

I guess the good thing about fast expensive vehicles is that its a quick way to kill off rich bastards.

curious how one cop got that many cars to stop....

Why would they bother with running and making it a criminal charge? The cop likely saw their personalized plates and can charge them with fleeing and eluding later.

Just pull over and pay your fee to go fast.

. . . "About 11:15 a.m., a driver on Oregon 18 called the State Police Northern Command Center to report about 10 expensive, high-octane sports cars zooming past each other in no-pass zones that cut through the farmlands near Grand Ronde.

East of town, Senior Trooper David Peterson spotted five of the cars. As he chased them, a sixth exotic sped past his patrol car. Peterson was eventually able to stop all six vehicles and cite their drivers for speed racing -- a $679 ticket" . . .

BMW ACA group.

Apparently these drivers were from O-Canada. Because traffic violations are not reported to the Canadian authorities, and US authorities have no way to arrest or suspend their licenses, the whole ticket is unenforceable. If they were really good boys, they would pay the tickets, but there is little anyone can do to enforce the tickets.

Under those circumstances, why not stop?

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
