I have a new engine in my car, 9.5:1 compression ratio, 284 cam, weber 38/38, Ireland Headers, Tii Dizzy with Pertronics...Car runs great...I am using the black coil that was in the car....I am just curious...Should I get a new coil? Red? Would i see a performance increase?

Nope, what you got should be just fine.

Electronic ignition helps, but as long as the

coil's decent, that's all you need.

I'd argue that the tii dizzy doesn't have

enough total advance, but that's just my opinion.

I've found that a good vac. dizzy idles better and has better light-

throttle response.

Interesting....I find the car has a very on/off character. When you get on the throttle, it REALLY goes...not alot of subtlety. I do like it though as its quick to get to max acceleration....

no power increase - BLACK coil is da-bomb!

your running 'issue' is caused by fuel/air ratio

delivery

put a sock over your coil - keep it dry!

maybe the tii dizzy is the cause of my lopey idle ?

How old is your distributor? Does your timing jump around at idle? If the shaft, advance springs and points mounting plate are worn/weak, your engine won't run well no matter what kind or color of coil.

Please make sure with the black coil and pertronix that the pertronix hot wire is wired in to the 12v ignition wire. This will insure that a steady 12 volts and no more goes in.

Also you can listen to your radio with out the engine running and have a pertronix that does not get fried from staying on too long with the engine off.
