I said goodbye to Emily this morning

Yep! She's got a loving new owner, that will lavish the care and attention she deserves (I'd been seriously slacking over the last 2 years...I simply burned out on her). Building her was the source of my joy, not the ownership.

I'd like to take the opportunity to thank EVERYONE that expressed an interest in her, as well as the many that wished me well, in my search to find a buyer. Y'all are too kind!

NOW - I can start working on my 71 2002 race car project for the 2010 SCCA season! *big grin*! Her name is "Helen"...and she's got inner beauty, I swear!

Hooray for springtime!

You were one of the best caretakers Paul. I have a slightly used Jim Gerock windscreen for donation to Helen if you want it. Some racers say windscreens get broken on occasion.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

I think that Emily was the most desirable 2002 that out there and have been trying to figure out a way to justify another 02 to my wife so I could buy her. Please let me know what part of the country she going so I can continue stalking her in the hopes of catching the new owner in a moment of weakness....

Good luck with the ITB project. I raced our shop 02 in ITB for about 5 years and loved every minute of it!

someone got a sweet car. sorry to see that one go. i loved it because the car was so understated. it had all the right stuff on it but was very unassuming for someone not knowledgeable about these cars. im sure the race car will be just as nice but youre going to miss having something to drive everyday thats a blast. i hope the new owner knows about this place

Sorry to see Emily go - I never had the chance to meet in person, but the pictures reveal she was/is a sweetheart.

As Bill W. mentioned, I donated my old windshield for possible use in another 2002. Since it was pulled from my Malaga 73tii, it might fit well in your race car.

I can't *imagine* racing ANYTHING but a 2002. Emily is staying in the mid-Atlantic area. You'll see her soon. Trust me!

Thanks again for the kind words all!

Guys,I'm the new caretaker of Emily. After my 72 2002 Inka tii got totaled.

One thing led to another, having driven and lusted after Pauls car.The time and insurance/money were in line.So here I am.

I'm honored to own this gorgeous labor of Pauls and will improve and care for this 2002.

And all of this from a man I consider a friend and that makes it nicer.

Thanks Jim!

Bill mentioned the windshield - and since they crack on a *weekly* basis in racing. I'll head on down to his place with my truck soon!

2002 folks are great! :)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
