Tire valve stem tool tip

While working on my car yesterday, I noticed the right front tire was low. When I removed the valve stem cap, I could faintly hear air leaking from the stem. I looked around for a suitable tool to tighten the stem, but couldn't find anything small enough to reach inside it. I tried using (2) small scrawls/picks but that didn't work.

Searching thru my tool box, I found some cotter pins (for my VW). By cutting off the long end to make both ends match and spreading them slightly apart, I was able to insert it into the stem to tighten it.

Presto - no more leaking stem.

Edit: I have bicycles but don't own the neat 2-way stem tool.
