So, yeah.  Its been quite some time since I have posted up.  Not much going on with the 2002 until lately.  It has been of the road since June and I hate it.   First it was a broken shock boss, and now its blown up into a total redo on the thing..

I went the route that I had planned back in 2009 or so, with the VW flares, but with a twist.  I don't like the full VW essence, so I had my man Jon Tinker go a step farther and pie cut the metal to replicate the wheel opening exit points.  Making a hybrid shape reminiscent of the days of yore..

Here are a few pics of the process so far.  The car is an hour or more from me, so I don't get to be hands-on like I prefer, and its killing me!!

But its in good hands with Jonathan Tinker, so I'm ok..ish.   ;)

And of course, with a wider body, the Rota RBs are antiquated.  So, as luck would have it, a set of oddly configured, three piece, first gen HRE 15" wheels were for sale locally..  15x7 and 15x7.5, but the 7.5 was the smaller lip and the front set!??  So with some careful calculation, it turns out that the wheels were originally configured in 15x7 and 15x8.5, and someone had tried to square them up, but it was baaaaad.

I had a Petri 'safety' hub for 2002, drilled out the rivets on an UGLY 320 hub and built a wheel for the car as well.. Not sure if i actually like it better than the late 320 sport wheel, but we will see.

Now that she's in paint, let the systems refresh begin..  45 degrees out, and half an hour free time.  Pedal box it is.  Powder coated and ready for the kit, new clutch slave and later the Tii Booster and Tii Master ( I will be going backwards to e21 drums for the time being..)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
