I'm proud of the tii- survived her first long rally

This past weekend th 72 tii completed the first long trip I have done. Roughly about 950 miles with elevation changes from sea level to 10000ft ++ in the high sierras.

Our loop started in Santa Cruz down to Big Sur, across the mountains and central valley to the Sierras, over to the eastern Sierras and back through Yosemite. She ran great though, some lack of power at the high elevations and a little trouble idling at over 10000ft up at the Ancient Bristlecone Pine tree forest, but that is expected. No temp issues while being pushed hard for extended periods and over the high passes. My two friends both had car issues, my friend's VW Gti died (ignition issues) as we were headed back to Yosemite and he is still stuck in Bishop waiting for it to be repaired, and my friend's 89 E30 325i sprung a coolant leak at the higher elevations. The tii had no such troubles :)

your friend with the '89 E30 probably never had the BMW COOLENT SYSTEM RECALL

performed ?! involves replaceing heater hoses,

radiator cap, and other junk to prevent cooling system

failures due to too high pressure build-up -

it can cause heater core blow-out as well.

just for your buddy when he returns:

Campaign Number: 93V015000 Date: 1993-Feb-01

Component: Visibility: Defroster/defogger System: Windshield: Heater Core

Defect Summary: THE MALFUNCTION OR FAILURE OF A COOLANT SYSTEM COMPONENT RESULTS IN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED COOLANT TEMPERATURE AND A RESULTING INCREASE IN SYSTEM PRESSURE.

Consequence Summary: VEHICLES OPERATED UNDER THIS INCREASED COOLING SYSTEMPRESSURE CONDITION CAN SUFFER DAMAGE OR FAILURE OF PARTS OF THE COOLING SYSTEMSUCH AS (1) LEAKAGE FROM A COOLANT HOSE, (2) LEAKAGE OF THE RADIATOR OREXPANSION TANK, (3) DISCONNECTION OF A HOSE FROM A PIPE OR A FITTING, AND (4)CRACKS IN THE HEATER CORE END PIECE RESULTING IN COOLANT LEAKAGE. IN SOME CASES,BOILING COOLANT CAN CONTACT THE LOWER RIGHT LEG OF THE DRIVER RESULTING INBURNS. ALSO, ESCAPING COOLANT IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT CAN CAUSE VAPORFOGGING OF THE INTERIOR SURFACE OF THE WINDOWS, REDUCING DRIVER VISIBILITY.

Corrective Summary: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A THERMOSTATIC BYPASS VALVE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO CONTROL COOLANT TEMPERATURE IN THE HEATER CORE. ALSO, A NEW DESIGN RADIATOR CAP WILL BE INSTALLED, TO CONTROL PRESSURE AND PROVIDE GREATER COOLANT OVERFLOW IN THE EVENT OF OVERHEATING.

Good Luck to him

how was your tii injection fuel/air mixtures during the higher altitude

motoring ?

It was good to meet you too, your guys team did an awesome job.

Yes, we will be at Thunderhill, we will probable be running an E30 for that race because the 944 isn't running anymore.

Look forward to seeing you there!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
