4sp conversion

So I am using a 79 320 as a parts car for my 02 build and I am replacing the auto trans with the 4sp that came in the 320. I have all the shifting linkage from a 02 however the 320 trans does not have the treaded hole for the lower bracket (2). Will I run into trouble drill and taping the plug that is in the back of the 320 trans?????

You may strike oil if you're not careful...

The other way to do it is to use the later '02 linkage

which supports the shifter on the body.

Or make a different bracket and rod, and use one of the long

bolts that holds the tail housing onto the transmission.

I did this for one car, and while it's a bit louder (no bushings!)

it works just fine. Takes a little cut- and- fit, is all...

hth,

Thanks. I am pretty good at the drill and already have a tape line on a bit so I dont go too deep. I will take a look at few other options. My main concern was if the plug is thinner than a late model.
