Finned Differential Cover

Recommended Posts

That is an Alpina deal. They do fit an 02 with some modification the to the brackets that hold the OEM carrier. You have to widen the holes in the brackets about 1/2" to the outside.

BTDT years ago. OR the mounting location can be properly modified/fabricated to hold the differential in place correctly. Simply widening the mount holes is well....obvious.

When you guys actually come up with something new let me know

IMHO I don't think this is neccesary mod......even in most race cars....unless your diff is modified for more lockup and generates more heat as result.

The stock 25% LSD diff and our low Hp cars don't really need it, of course extra oil and cooling can never hurt! Just alot more things I would get before this....

in any case it's a nice part!

LOL don't call you what? I know it's tough to try to keep up with or think of new and creative ideas with something that has been around for so long. Those of us that have been doing this for 25 years and do this on a professional level get a huge kick out this kind of stuff. Always remember - have fun and drive your '02!

Actually, I knew that Alpina had produced those finned covers way back when. What caught my attention was that the linked vendor seems to be reproducing them, even though it's a very limited market.

Maybe their next item will be those shiny stone guards everybody wants. Or a reasonably priced alternative to early bumper joint covers (THAT I would go for..).

Happy '02ing,

I figured that you knew about that cover as one of the long timers around here. What some may not know is that the cover was made only for the E21.

From the Miller & Norburn catalog (circa 1993) the cost was $594.95 I dug out my copy the other day :) Mabye I should scan a few pictures of the cars and parts and post them up?

We looked very seriously at reproducing that cover (along with a few other rare parts that we have) a few years ago with mine as a template, although it did not pencil out considering the quantity needed and the amount of mods needed to install it correctly.

We have a few projects we are working on though...stay tuned.

Say hey to Victor for me please if you get a chance!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
