need to replace my exhaust from the downpipe back. i want to keep it stock. i've been checking around at some parts places and i can get the downpipe and a bosal rear muffler but i can only find the center resonator as an ansa. don't want the ansa. don't necessarily want bosal either but that is my default. do most dealers still stock the OEM eberspacher exhaust components, or are they N/A? was gonna call some Bay Area BMW dealers tomorrow morning to see, but I'd rather buy from somewhere else (cheaper) if possible.

thanks.

Hey Golf73,

This may be your lucky day.

First I'm in the Bay area and in the process of redo-ing my car in many ways. One of which will include the exhaust.

I have a complete stock standard diameter pipe system from Bosal. The down pipe, center res and rear silencer bent for the pre 75 and early 74 cars. This means the exahaust tip dog legs out the passenger side.

The center section was bought new a year ago while the rest of the system was just fine as it is used with no issues.

If you want to check it out, it is on the floor at A1 Imports right now under the 74 Chamonix.

Call JP first and let him know what you are doing:

Let me know if you want it and we can work on a fair price.

But what do I know

Just so there's no confusion - there were actually (at least) THREE manufacturers of Genuine BMW exhaust components for the 02.

Eberspracher

Gillette (sp? - long since NLA, but listed on the old parts fiche!)

Boysen - NOT BOSAL....(!)

BOSAL stuff (orig made in Belgium I think) is "ok", but I've had mixed experiences with it in a professional shop. I really really like the factory BMW stuff (Eberspracher or Boysen) but if you just want to get the car quiet for a couple years - Bosal makes an economical stock type. My biggest complaint is the clearance over the rear subframe and rear muffler hanger location - it just doesn't mount as well (regardless of adjustment at the downpipe or muffler clamping locations)- and might rattle / contact subframe / axle upon startup / shut down of the motor.

On E30s / E28s / E24s...the Bosal cat converters often hang about 1-2 inches TOO LOW, and it's frustrating!

OH - and the factory stuff seems to last a WHOLE LOT longer than the aftermrkt also!

HTH!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
