I'm reminded of just how great this forum is....

I haven't posted in a while, mostly because my car is running great as a direct result of this forum. Recently I was prompted to get a "family car" by my wife. She feels that the lowered springs, strut supports and lack of central heating, won't be the best thing for our new baby (coming any day now). So, to keep it in the family I found a 1997 M3 sedan (AT, unfortunately, so she can drive it too) and I began hitting the E36 forums. I couldn't believe the lack of involvement and information, and the excess of general smugness. After posting a few Q's, I received 75 views and no comments ....seriously disappointing.

So I just wanted to say thank you to all the people that make this forum possible and for all the help I've received. 2002 people are truly a different breed.

and lastly, are there ANY good E36/M3 forums????

Aint it great? I like the fact that people from all walks of life are here, irrespective of race, gender or income level. And of course, the tremendous collective knowledge is awesome. I don't know anything about newer BMW's, but I imagine you could post in the off-topic section as I think there are quite a few forum members who are in the know about those cars.

Cheers,

Ben

I was lucky when I posted a question regarding my daughter's e36 325i over at the Bimmerforums E36 board. Got an answer within an hour.

IMHO an automatic E36 M3 is great for a daily driver. I've driven two, a lSchwarz 4 door owned by the mechanic who wrenches my non-02's and Humberto Marti's sweet Dakar convertible. Fell madly in love with Humberto's, and I have dibs if he ever decides to sell it....

MyE28.com is my other hangout (for my daily driver, an '86 535i), and they can be a bit harsh with newbie posters asking a question that is posed every other day.

I got an E46 for my wife in Dec, and found the best thing to do is pour over the forum archives or perform searches to get better acquainted with the systems - much is often already there.

The E36 M3 sedan is a great car. I considered one back in '00, but was spooked by the apparent complexity & repair/maintenance costs.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
