Need a Horn Part (Steering Wheel Contact)

I blew up the contact post that slides around the ring of the steering column last night. The mushroom shaped copper contact and the spring flew into outer space when I tried to remove it to use with a 320is wheel. I think the PO had already done a repair once. I'm looking for the whole unit from the spade terminals at the horn buttons on the wheel to the wire, spring, plastic housing and contact point.

Unless anyone has any bright ideas as to how to adapt the e21 contact into thhe wheel - this is my only option.

If anyone has an old crappy wheel that they are willing to sacrifice this part from I will be happy to pay.

bend the 320 contact ring. Might even be able to buy the contact spring from the Dealer with the horn button.

I did everything from the post that you guys put up the other day. It was working really well except when I went to shave down the spacer thing so it wouldn't squeak the horn contact and spring shot out. The window was open and it went down a sewer or something - GONE.

I'll check with the dealer but I need ASAP.

TJ,

I am doing the same thing you're doing to my car. I purchased the copper spring-loaded pin assembly (seperate item) from "Double02 Parts & Salvage" in Hayward, CA for $11.00 I extended the wire and my horn worked, but I broke the center cap tab removing it to tighten down the lock nut. Thanks for your inquiry into the part #, ordered a horn cap today. I hope it fits okay, no picture. Good luck!

if you need it soon.

I too was breaking contact pins because the steering column was not centered in the surround unit. I bought two in case I did not get the problem resolved.

Let me know if you need it. It is the one that fits the stock bus wheel

Bill,

Thank you for the offer. I ended up rigging up a makeshift contact with the OE 320is contact point. A little JB-Weld and a nylon bushing at Home Depot and I was able to do it very easily. If it works I may end up just keeping this setup. Since I still need the horn button with Roundel I'll just order the parts now that I have a functional horn for the meantime.

Driving around in Boston without a front bumper is bad enough - take away the horn and you're asking for it. Your middle finger is no match for all the cab drivers!

Thanks for the offer!
