Reintroduction= 1969 M20 (long)

Hi all. I've been away from the board for some time. Life has a way of getting in the way. But progress on my car has continued. I did a total rustoration/renewal of my car a couple of years ago and was much more active on the FAQ during that time. Thinking my car was complete at that time, I was fat, dumb and happy. Then while on a business trip, I had an opportunity to stop in to see Rob Torres at 2002 Haus and had the opportunity to get a first hand look at his 69 M20. Rob's was probably one of the first 02's converted back in the 1980's. Needless to say, I returned to South Dakota found an m20 and began the swap. I really have to give thanks to Rob for helping with the conversion. Without his help, guidance and motor mounts-- this project would not have had much chance of success.

The engine is from an 89 325i, 323 5 speed OD, 2002Haus motor mounts (these mounts are hell for stout, the engine doesn't really move at all under load unlike my m10 stock mounts).

My ghetto custom strut bar. Build locally for something like $50 (gotta love South Dakota)

Added a gauge pod for the engine

Car is done (until I find some other tweaking to do)

Will post more info later/

chuck brought this car over and let me drive it. its a really nicely built car and spotless. i love the torque of the m20. haven driven both an m20 and an s14 car i can say they are both a blast. they each have their unique qualities.

i think there are still black rubber marks in my driveway from chuck

Ain't nothing ghetto about that strut bar! You could probably get $200 for those on Ebay. Did you have to use a shoe horn to get that motor in?

Absolutely beautifully put together!!

I'd love to see more pictures and get more information about this install.

I'm contemplating doing an m20 conversion on my 75 which is all but original.

Do I see some lines running to an oil cooler there?

What brake booster are you using?

What radiator is that?

How did you tackle the downpipe?

One more time: That looks absolutely stunning!

Thanks for all of the comments.

The following pic is in response to Chris and Charley.

Chris: Shoehorn almost. As I did all of the work myself the engine in and out was done very slowly.

Charley: I don't have any good pics of the mounts on this computer but you can see the pass side mount in the picture. Driver side is the same style but obviously different dimensions.

Lasse:

Yes, running a small aftermarket cooler behind the front grill.

Stock 02 brake booster.

Running Ansa header which fit perfect.

I will post more pics, info, etc. later.

Very good job, one of the cleanest 02/m20's i have seen, for what it is worth, i believe those are my mounts that Rob got from me(6 sets a few runs ago) unless you are not talking about the metal part, and are using a racing mount in place of the rubber mount, glad you like them.

The engine is from an 89 325i, 323 5 speed OD, 2002Haus motor mounts (these mounts are hell for stout, the engine doesn't really move at all under load unlike my m10 stock mounts).

Dan,

Rob's mounts are different than yours (think 325 vs 2002). These mounts were developed from the mounts on his original M20 car. I've attached a pic of the driver side mount. As you can see it is very different as it does not attach to the stock 02 subframe mount point.
