Pertronix unit

So, tried to install the Pertronix the other day with no luck. Seem to have everything hooked up correctly. Im starting to think the unit is the wrong one or faulty because the PO didnt put it on. On the black box it says 31W-V4 and the unit is a 1847V (for a tii). Do other tii owners have a "31W-V4" on theirs?

I should also mention, when I crank the engine, it will turn over a couple of times (tops) without starting and then appear to bog down and struggle to crank anymore like there is something stopping it. The engine turns over fine without the cap on.

Maybe the timing is too far advanced

I helped Tom with the install, we didn't remove the dizzy from the head and the static timing was spot on when we checked it.

It looked like the module (black box) was different to mine, but I didnt have my car to check. We think the wrong module was in the right box. Beaner7102

what distributor do you have?

My tii distrib takes a 1843, I have a bosch 0-231-188-002

This would be correct for your 74tii however for the 72 and73tii's it is the 1847V that is used.

Ok Now the car is pissing me off

ran a hot/ground pair from the battery to the crane

it STILL cuts out over 3500 rpm in 3rd and 4th

I can go to 7000 in 1st/2nd, but hit 3rd and it dies

I'm out of idea's, it's spark related for sure, I tested cutting the fuel pump, it does not act the same

symptoms, rpm guage goes dead, car shuts off until it diesels a bit, then it fires back up, but I cant hit the gas or it dies again

Sounds like a rev limiter. I thought they were for 6,500 rpm though. Im 99% sure theres one on my car. Shaun was telling me about them the other day...

Maybe its faulty - just my uneducated thought though :-)

first thing I did was remove it

when the car cuts out, my voltage light I hooked up to the pertronix would cut out too

I'm out of ideas, hope the group buy on the crank pulley goes, my MS2 is almost done and I have all the ford parts to complete it
