32/36 DGAV convert to DGV? (Electric to Manual)

Can I convert a 32/36 electric choke over to a manual choke unit easily? I own a manual choke carb but I paid $25 for it and it's rough. I don't know that I would trust running it on the car. I'd like to take the manual choke parts off the one carb I have and install them on the electric choke carb on the car. Is this something that can be easily done?

I want to do this because I am convinced that the electric choke sucks in the cold. I'm convinced that the manual choke would start better in the cold. Am I delusional here?

but get the electric choke set up properly first, and give it a chance. If you don't like it, switch to manual.

The electric choke is as good as its going to get. It takes tuning once a month to keep the carb/choke combo in check. I want the easiest, simplest thing under the hood until the MS is installed. Its like it doesn't open or close enough. and the spring is adjusted properly

the manual choke setup is different than the electric,

and when you convert it, it works poorly-

it has to do with the way the choke flap is controlled.

The auto chokes use the bimetal spring as a 'pulloff' to let the engine open the choke a bit in response to revs, and the conversion kits don't allow this. So it never works right, and overchokes, especially at revs.

Then manual choke DGV has a spring in the linkage to allow the same thing, and the throttle pullup uses a ramp that's better suited to the leverage of the cable pull.

Make sure your electric is working- the bimetallic coil has a habit of losing ground, or the center post works loose- and then start adjusting it. It actually wants to be 'wound' pretty tight, so that it takes 3-4 minutes for the choke to open fully. Again, remember that the engine's intake air is trying to force it open.

The main difference between the elec and man chokes is the main body of the carb. Therefore they do not convert easily. Water to elec or vice versa is easy as the main body is the same for both. Pierce sell a conversion kit, but others have had problems with it. It might be easier to do a quick tear down of your 2 carbs and put all the good jets etc into the man choke body. Good luck with it. Beaner7102 (I us a manual choke in my two cars).
