pertronix or crane

my pertronix is shot

should I upgrade to optical crane for 40 $ more? or replace the pertronix

I'm running an MSD II coil, just replaced it

my ms-2 project is on hold until suspension is complete, and I need the car running again

PS car is a 74 non tii

but I have some type of tii distrib, it's a bosch 0-231-188-002 and currently I use a 1847, although it calls for a 1847V pertronics, I have no idea what the diff is between them

I think a crane xr3000 3000-0231 will work with my msd coil

XR-700 is about $85 at Summit Racing.

I had a Pertronix fry on me only because I left the ignition on while the engine was not running. The XR-700 is easier to install as you do not need to check dwell or clearance. Just put engine at TDC, rotate the dizzy until your hear a sparkplug click, and tighten. The XR-700 is universal for all 2002s and is a bulletproof system.

you know which one from summit? there's 2 that look like they work I think

summit is 15 min from my house, they have everything in stock, not sure if I should get a crane coil, or keep my msd-II coil, it uses a resistor

my coil has an external ballast resistor

it's the msd2 coil/ballast setup

so xr700 for me, but which one, there's 2 that look like they might work

700-0231 says it's universal, I think that's the one I need?

sigh

so the pertronix is ok, the crane setup did not fix my problem

under 3000+ rpm 3rd 4th it cuts out, it's power too the module I guess, I installed a light, and the light dims out when the power is cut

I guess there's a short somewhere, from the key to the hot wire to ignition

I'm going to run a dedicated switched hot wire to the crane, that better fix it
