GREAT 02 day - love it when fixes come together

Got my 1600-2 on the road today, well yesterday, but I had problems. After replacing most rubber things in the suspension and brakes I had dragging front brakes and a rock hard brake pedal.

This is a 1600 with a single remote booster, known to fail causing a hard brake pedal. So this morning I thought what the hell, the boosters being replaced anyway, might as well take it apart and see if I can free up the piston inside that gets rusted tight.

Then I noticed the pipe from the back of the unit didn't locate to the front where it should, and judging by some alllen screws it had been apart sometime in the past. So took it all apart, cleaned it up, nothing obviously wrong, put it back together properly, and the car's transformed.

Not only stopping properly, but because the fecked up servo was effecting manifold pressure it idles properly, revs drop away when you come off the throttle, all in all she's fantastic.

Sorry that got long, but you know how good it feels when an 02 plan comes together! BTW, this car has 42,000kms on the clock, and judging by how tight everything feels I'm beginning to beleive it - never had an m10 as sweet and oil burning free as this before.

Nick, good news re. the fix on your car. Nice photo -- what are the ruins in the background?

The ruins are Haute Greolieres, the village above the current Greolieres where I live. It was abondoned in the middle ages after the plague wiped out most of the population. They've only restored the church and refuse applications to rebuild anything else (a lot of land is still owned by the same families in the village, all these years on).

This part of the road is about a mile further up the mountain, with a shear drop off the right. As seen in many a car chase, including Bond and Ronin:

Michelle and I looked at Nick's location in Provence and thought aloud " what a beautiful and fabulous place to get married!" So that's what we did. We weren't dissappointed!!! It was perfect. We were married 2 minutes away from those ruins in a ~500 year old church. Can't do that here in BC!

Follow the links to le-foulon.com and you'll see his spread.

Dubois, Nick & Mia are superb hosts. The local roads are just perfect for 02ing around in (specially if it is a well sorted M2) . The local restos are marvelous also. Watch out for cyclists. They are all over those alpine roads. And he has an old firetruck for kicks too.

I just can't figure out why he's going stock now in terms of 02! Actually, I can. They really are just plain amazing to drive!

More power!

ah, good to hear from you Pierre, and thanks for your kind words - the pleasure was all ours. I've gone back to stock because the car was an absolute bargain, and I must admit I'd forgotten how good a completely stock car was.

It's a great reference point for the M2, and as much fun in a different way - I found the handling amazing with original sized rubber and no anti-roll bars. These truly were ground breaking little cars when new.

Love to Michelle - and send me your current address - still have a CD of pictures to send you.

Nick,

Any chance you could post up a higher res picture? I need a new background :-)

Tom

I'm flattered - too big to host here so I've stuck it on my M2 server - 1.6mbs to right click. Want to spend a day taking pics with the 02's soon - a better one for a calendar will be the Col d'Aiglun, one of the most famous stages on the Monte Carlo Rally. Stunning road.

Nick, thanks for the pic... is your bumper bar bent up on the left hand side or is that your camera playing tricks on me??

Bent up a bit - bizarre, but it's much more noticable on camera. There's a small dent on the front panel underneath, which would explain it.
