Decorum...

Having read the recent posts I went over to an airplane site I frequent and the moderator put this post up. Apparently we do not have a monopoly on the Wrangling. I have copied it here as it seems appropriate and well stated! For your consideration....

"Some threads have developed a unpleasant tone. People accuse other people of hijacking threads and maybe they are, others make snide remarks, some adopt a very bombastic attiude and bad feelings develop between individuals. These actions do not violate the Authorized Use Policy (AUP) but they do set an unpleasant tone that discourages others from participating. And while hundreds participate in our fourms the root of these problems comes from just a very few participants. Perhaps the saddest point is that these few are among our most knowledgeable and active participants. I don’t know why this is, perhaps it is Alpha type personalities or that a smile, upbeat tone of voice, a wink and a nudge cannot be communicated by the written word.

As we approach the end of this year and the start of the next, I would like to ask everyone to take a step back from the bickering. Lets resolve to be nice to each other. Practice a little decorum and tact. Avoid making snide or cutting remarks. To not respond in kind to such remarks, percieved or actual. Keep posts on subject, focussed and friendly. Let each of us try to be a good example for the others. In short conduct ourselves as if we were all in the same room having a discussion and our spouses and children are present. "

Regards to all,

Well said! I enjoy a discussion of different positions, but the key would often forgotten, is discussion not shouting match. This is my favorite forum and we all can do with a chill pill sometime. Frohe Weihnachten!

One of the things that I really like about the 02FAQ is that people are generally a lot more respectful and tollerant. I've been a part of a lot of communities that aren't that way at all.

I've developed a thick skin when talking on net forums and I tend to ignore almost everything that is said by people who are aggressive and confrontational. It is a shame because I'm sure that these people have a lot to contribute.

I guess I say this to remind myself that everything that I say and do on-line reflects on my own credibility. If 5% of my posts are trash talking and arguments that would better be resolved off-line, then the other 95% of my questions or comments are going to be looked at with skepticism if not ignored entirely.

This board is something unique and impressive in so many ways. It would be great to keep it that way.

Sorry.

The only thing I can think of when I hear the word "decorum" is John Candy.

I think the scene was in "Going Berserk".

Other than that, I whole heartedly agree with your statements.
