Looks like it's been hit. check out the engine photo where you can see the seam on the passenger side where it meets the inner fender. compare that to the driver's side and you can see that the passenger's side looks to be not right. My nose was hit and repaired and it looks peeled up like that.

Could be wrong though... no way to tell unless you actually see the car.

...and not by a BMW afficionado. Look at the rear: Square-taillight roundel on trunk lid, 2002 emblem on the wrong side...

The air filter housing looks too small for stock. '72s had 2-bbl Solex's, right? Also, the heater and vent controls look like they're out of a much earlier car.
