door brakes -- who what where?

Are the "new" Mobile Tradition door brakes better or as good as the modified e21 door brakes? If not, is anyone out there modifying the e21 types? Thoughts?

the new ones are good. i cant comment if they are better than the modified e21 as ive never seen one but you wont be dissapointed with the new mobile traditions units. check on ebay, theres some dude selling them at below cost or so it seems. i have them but it appears this guy is selling them for less than i am able to. for reference i ususally get about 158.00 shipped for a pair

The modified ones work great for a fraction of the cost if you have access to a welder and a grinder. I'm using the hinged type on my 74 and the roller strap type on my 75. All four came off of junk yard 320's for less than $10 ea.

Thanks all for your input.

I grabbed a pair off of eBay for $125 plus shipping. Sounds like I did okay.

Now maybe I can trust the kids to open and close the doors (which would take one stress out of my life)......

Beware of the new or modified door brakes causing metal fatique on the A post. By design, they put more stress on the A post. If there is a way you can put a weld where the brake meets the post area, the longer that area will last.

It seems the new style places stress (friction) on the sheet metal during the entire length of the travel of the door brake as the old style did not.

Butch, if you want to sell that Alpina valve cover or see another for sale, let me know.
