How do you make the 2002 a more tourqey engine

There is no replacement for displacement. To increase torque the easiest thing to do is increase displacement. Also what is your current setup and what are your goals? What peak / mean operating torque are you trying to achieve?

It is a stock 2L e12 head engine, but i am hoping father christmas will bring some webber 40dcoe!, do you think a 4into1 branch manafold will help?

Regards James

To increase torque bore out cylinders to 92mm, install s14 crankshaft, get custom pistons & use S14 rods and you'll be a very happy man.

Remember there is no replacement for displacement. If you are seriously looking for massive torque maybe it's time for an E30 325????

NO! The 'Tri-Y' manifold actually makes more torque. The DCOE's will probably only really help your top end. But it will be more fun!

There are 3 ways to make torque in a 2002, from cheapest to most expensive (per ft/lb):

2 more cylinders (the M20 engine)

A compressor on the input, either a turbo or a supercharger,

Bore it and stroke it.

Oh, EFI can help a touch, if only because it's more accurate...

SET THE dwell with a meter

set the timing with a timing light

adjust the valves to 0.006" Cold

make sure yer throttle linkage is giving you full throttle opening at the carb, or the injection pump/air horn

get rid of the restrictive - Happy Harry's Muffler Shop

muffler and install SuperSprint tubular header, or tii exhaust manifold,

and 'stock' bmw mufflers for MAX power.

Dont forget this is a RHD car, we are not gifted with a large selection of exhaust manifolds... I take it you are getting a Jaymic manifold? They are probably worth havign a chat to about extracting the most power from an M10 in the UK (exhaust specific anyway)

The 2002 engine is torquey. It's torque curve is fairly flat across the RPM range. This motor is well balanced, being torquey at bootom end, mid range, and top end. I is also revy.

If you set it up like a an early 02 with the single barrel Solex and large 228mm clutch, you will have maximum torque, especially down low.

I think the M10 feels a lot more torquey if you just advance the ignition timing. I set it with a timing light before, and it felt kinda weak. I just rotated the distributor on around till it started idling funny, then backed off a little. Feels way better!

I know the purists hate this method, but I've never heard it ping, and its been running strong like that for over a year.

Redszus had said a long time ago that the distributor advance springs weaken over time, screwing up the advance curve. Setting timing with a light is good only if the springs are withing spec IMO.

Stop reading this! Don't you have anything better to do?? :P
Two running things. Two broken things.
