At top dead center-cyl. 1, the mark on the rotor & distributor should align, will the point gap be fully open?

TDC is for timing and independent to points gap. You are supposed to set the points gap (0.016”) then set the static timing 3°BTDC (align mark on pulley and mark on dizzy) Then, once running set the timing to 25°BTDC with a timing light and the ball in the flywheel – see pic. Beaner7102

I remember doing that on Karl after the Weber was put on and the head gasket was changed. I had no idea what was going on, but eventually, I learned.
