Man- my '02 was running sooo good. One morning I get in to start it(s14 starter), it cranks and all of the sudden it stops then it starts to crank again. While driving away, I notice a blueish/white smoke. It warms up and goes away. I get to work and check the water level just for grins. It takes a quart of water. I'm thinking blown head gasket or something. Steve J lends me a cool tool that reacts with gases in the water to help diagnose the problem. It tests positive. I pulled the head and find a crack in the head. DAMN! I just had it gone thru a few months ago.

Oh well good thing I have an extra head. Time to get it to the machine shop. I'm just venting!

Bad part about it is that it was a Metric Mechanic head with their cam, porting, and valves/springs.

It will be back on the road next weekend.

CJ,

I'm an expert on that kind a thing. Tow the car to my house and I'll make sure to get it done in 2 days. Heck, I'll even throw in a paint job for nothing. You like yellow?

Can you get it welded? How about just get the headwork done and swap over the parts. All you'll need is new seats, guides, seals & cam bearings right?

Head jobs are pretty cheap. I'll have a good pro do it. Thanks for the offer.

CJ. If I can be of any help, just name the day and I'll be there to repay the favor. Sorry to hear of the misfortune.

The replacement head goes to the machine shop on Monday. I'll install it next Sunday. It should be pretty straight forward.
