Oil pressure sender question

Can you run the existing wire from the factory oil pressure sender to the idiot light on a new VDO oil pressure sender?

Did that make any sense? I've attached pictures of the current setup. Problem is when everything is wired in -- the needle on my oil pressure gauge doesn't move when the engine is on. I've not run a new wire from the idiot light -- I merely clipped it onto the new sender

I did have everything wired in earlier (w/out the VDO sender installed) -- the signal wire to the gauges was just dangling -- and I noticed a couple of times the needle was off the chart +150lbpsi. Figured that the signal wire was just shorting.

Thoughts or comments?

i'm not quite sure what you're saying....

But yes, that brown wire works fine for the factory idiot light. It just has a much more sensitive threshold than your factory sender. The factor sender triggers the light at like 4 psi, whereas the VDO triggers the light at like 14 PSI.

I'm not sure where your problem is coming from exactly.... but are you sure your oil pump is good? I had such problems before... and it turns out the oil pump was too weak.

But your problem is most likely a weird short in wiring somewhere.

Local NAPA store. Don't know what the thread pitch is -- there is a slight mis-match between the sender and the elbow, but am still able to crank it down.
