TPS Followup

After a few posts regarding TPS and learning that the BMW TPS found on both the M20 and M10 motors are very limited and non-variable would someone please share what they are running?

i'm reluctant to order the $50 adapter plate to fix an M20 TB onto the M10 intake without knowing that I can use a variable TPS. Are you guys attaching a different TPS to the M20 TB or are you using a different TB all together?

TIA,

You might poke around the Megasquirt website and finkbuilt.com for blogs on mounting plates and discussions about TPS selection. I remember reading something about that on one of those websites. Peter

I found a Bosch TPS on a Saab that fit the bill. It turns the right direction and the D shaft on my TB fits perfectly. Unfortunately I do not recall the year. I've tested a lot of TPS at the various salvage yards and most of those found in Saabs (and so far all that I've tested in BMWs) are not potentiometers. I want to say that the Saab I pulled this one from was an early 90s turbo.

I asked Steve at finkbuilt about his TPS and he sent me this link:

like '90-> volvos. Lots of fords will have em too.

OK so what are you guys actually running? Is there anyone out here with MS or MS-II running a variable TPS on an M20 TB? I just want this part to be easy and test-free. No fitting, no figuring things out, I'm keeping my fingers crossed someone can say: GET X.. IT WILL WORK.

I'll look at those volvos and Fords - Maybe that's why Zenon used the Ford TB - size AND it came with the variable TPS.

thanks Pat. The M20 TB has a TPS on it - only I believe it's the static one that only has the idle and WOT outputs. So my question was more of what are you guys running and how/what have you done to adapt a different TPS on to your M20 TB.

I'll look for a Nissan and the link that was provided has them shipped new for under $5 - I may just do that and be done with it. I don't want to have to re-invent the wheel here as I'm already doing that in so many other areas of my car.

Thanks again!
