Options for Spare Tire Well?

Having one fabbed to specs and installed is bucks.

Having one fabbed "square" is somewhat less.

Already having a good one and just having it installed is the best option.

My questions: Are they hard to come by? Has anyone substituted a common household item [lid off a barbeque ;)] for the part?

The e30 way to go may be the *trickest* way I've heard yet. Deeper, same diameter, etc. 2002AD sells the whole trunk floor for ~$450 + shipping. I'm sure you could get a tire well for at least half that. Other than that you're looking at something custom and best to be boxed config - (90degree bends) email BLUNT about the sheet metal. If it can be had, and it's worth the price he can get it. Too bad our parts car didn't have one.

OH there's a guy in NC that just posted a parts car that he wanted to chop up. In main forum down a little "how to chop" or something. Ask him about the well - maybe he can send to you for less than $200

i know, thats why i said it wasnt a good option for you. i was commenting on the mark up on parts. sorry to jack your thread

No worries. My reply was for esty. Maybe better for him to keep his whole trunks intact if they are good instead of ripping out just the spare tire well. I don't know.

I don't consider your post a hijack of the thread. You were referenced by someone already. As always, more information is better than less.

Thanks.

. . . to replace the well on a '69 I owned.

Worked fine for the eight years I drove it, and looked as good as it sounds.

It also came in handy for watering cattle or washing clothes on long road trips.

you can commit 02 sin and do what i did for lack of wanting to pay for a new well to replace my totally rusted one. I took a plasma cutter buzed the well out then found rooted around in the shops spare metal area found a nice thick rust free camaro hood, and cut out a replacement. Also cut out the same diameter in the hood joices to use as support. Then welded joices in and then from underside tacked circle to joices, then ran a bead around the edge. It isn't going anywhere is coated in underbody and por-15 and seam sealer around the edges.
