Water Pump or Thermostat

So I rebuilt my heater core housing, turned out sweet. Installed it and checked the water level, filled it up a bit, but no heat when it warmed up. I disconnected the feed line into the heater core and there no antifrezze. If I squezze the hose at the heater core, the antifrezze moves in the radiator so I know its a clear passage, so is it the water pump not pushing the flow or the thermostat not opening. Kinda of stuck. Anyway of checking before I buy parts I don't need.

I am not sure if you have tried this or not but "Burp" the thermostat. Air gets trapped under it. Stick a flathead in between the hose and the thermostat housing. That will get the fluid level high enough.

I've never had to do it. I always start the car and run it on the road and the bubs work there way to the radiator. If the car does not over heat then the thermostat and water pump are working fine I would think.You could try jacking up the front end and running the car to tyr andd get the air pockets to work their way forward to the radiator.

Or some people drill a small hole in the plate to allow air to pass.

I'll try the bleeding and see what I get, it doesn't overheat so it's doing what it's supposed to. Will keep you posted.

Yeah, had to rebuild it. The PO used a sealer and got it all over the inside to the point it wouldn't open or close. Cleaned it out and found a valve with a good plastic goodie. Adjusted and it works good.

As a last resort, remove intake and output hoses from heater core. Wrap tape around a garden hose and connect it to the output side (driver's). Make sure there is flow throught the core...then connect the valve and make sure you have flow through the valve. Sometimes the core gets blocked. Peter
