The guibo is there to take the shock of the drive train up as well as act as a U joint. Failures on the guibos on race cars at the track are rare. You always cary a spair and a very good prepurchas inspection is key. I have never seen a guibo fail at the track and they are quick to change. Remember as part of the drive shaft is a continuation of the shaft. The simplest solution if you feel that you have to dump it would be to get one CNCed out of aluminum. Again you would loose a universal joint that flexs as the engine and trans move, yes even urathane will move a little. I think you would experence more drive line failures with out the cheaper guibo. there are cars making a lot more power then you and I ever will and they run the guibos with no problem.

Thanks Sam, I only asked because at the last race meeting another driver had a new one fail!!!!!

Regards.

As they say giubos rarely fail. With that said it is important - VERY IMPORTANT to line up your driveline so there is as close to 0 (zero) flex as possible. I spent almost an entire day with a straight edge lining up my driveshaft when I did my 5-speed conversion. I had to loosten the rear diff, the front subframe and play with shims at the trans mount and center bearing. When it was all said and done it was more a matter of putting the weight back on the tires rather than the shell and everything was very close to where the factory had put it.

I think Bill Williams suggested leaving the giubo unbolted and rotating it - this way you'll be able to see the flanges pull away from the rubber where things flex. Just keep adjusting till there is no flex in the disc. At 6,000+ rpms that things's gonna crack if it's constantly flexing!

after 3 years on the track.

The guibo's just transferring torque- the center pilot is keeping the shaft centered on the 'box.

I carry a spare, and a spare driveshaft, and (so far) haven't had any trouble. But I do check it regularly, and use name- brand replacements...
