Electrical Question about tranny

WHen I changed out my tranny I had to unhook the two electrical terminals(red and blue) off the back of the tranny...Does anyone know how they go back? Meaning is the red or the blue supposed to be on top?

The reason I ask is that after the swap the car runs fine for about 20 minutes, then the old seat belt alarm and light starts to come on and go off quickly while I'm driving... almost as if there is a short...and yes I have been wearing my seatbelt at the time...Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Brian

Hey Brian,

That's your reverse light switch. It just so happens that it's a dumb open/close circut and it really doesn't matter which goes where. The short however is right under your ass! The reverse lights go through a grommet (on US LHD cars) right near the shifter. You can see this from under the car. Then it travels along the front base of the driver's side seat where it hooks into the wire loom. It just so happens that the only two things (four wires or maybe six depending on how your e-brake is wired) that run together down there is your seatbelt warning wires and the reverse wires. The two run together under the seat, then hook up and go forward along the cill/rocker and run along the bottom of the floor, all the way up to the dash/firewall. If you have a short it's either under the carpet under your seat - or possibly somewhere (depending on your amount of rust) tucked up in the corner below the hood latch. A common place for floors to rust is that corner just forward of the door hinges where it curves up to meet the firewall. Check both places but start under your seat.
