Mounting DAPBMW's Turbo Airdam - Measurements Needed

Bodyshop has mounted the airdam and right now it is incorrectly raked. The airdam is not following the lines of the flares and is leaning too far forward as it is currently mounted on the nose. It appears that the mounting flange is either not angled correctly or....my nose panel isn't quite right.

I have provided the shop with pictures that show the airdam correctly mounted and they are going to correct it.....might require some cutting and re-glassing of the airdam.

They have asked that I try and get some information from the board on measurements. Can anyone who has mounted one of these airdams, or anyone who owns a turbo take some measurements for me? Here is what they are looking for...

1) distance from left grill opening (near fender seam) to top of airdam

2) distance from right grill opening (near fender seam) to top of airdam

3) distance from center kidney opening to top of airdam (centerpoint)

4) distance from nose valance (center) to airdam lower edge (center)

I'm sure someone will get you the measurements today, but if not I will measure mine tonight and post it for you. Here is a picture of where mine sits, I mounted it just slightly below the slots for the bumpers (on a '72). Just enough so the rubber fender trim will cover the remaining gap. It was a great way to measure it as well and make sure it was even.

I've read before that it is a matter of how high or low you want it to be (personal preference). The flares have to be trimmed if you have the airdam - this is where your body guys could be confused?

I had no problems with my DAP airdam fitting correctly.

I bought the the airdam from MOESPEED (thank's again Moe) but he got it from DAP who sells them in the FAQ store

I got my flares from someone on craigslist, but they are ABS and could be found on Ebay or in the FAQ store with the airdam.

Current nose measurements - spoke with Matt McGinn today and the two on the ends are very close to the factory turbo mount point....the on in the middle is a bit low. I'd still be interested in reading other turbo airdam owner's measurements

If you had both sets from me you won't have fitting problems,  we made molds from brand new OEM BMW 2002 turbo parts so they should fit like it was a factory part. What I do know is these fibreglass parts won't shrink or expand like abs plastic parts and are repairable when they get cracked unlike abs plastic, you just throw them away.

You bumped a twelve year old thread to extoll the virtues of your parts by ragging on others.  I'll bite.  As any first-year ME student can tell you, the impact resistence of ABS is considerably higher than fiberglass.  Meaning fiberglass is MUCH more likely to crack in the first place, I've seen the difference on track cars plenty of times.  Not to mention ABS is a fair amount lighter compared with fiberglass.

 

Part of the real reason that low-volume manufacturers don't typically choose ABS is the high initial cost to produce.  The cost for an ABS mold is many times greater than that of your typical FG.

 

No disrespect toward your parts in general, I'm sure the quality is fantastic.
