euro h4 headlamp setup - HELP!

Recommended Posts

OK, I bit the bullet and bought new h4 reflectors & lenses. I'm almost done with new wiring, but I have a question about the parking light bulb. Apparently it is a different bulb to the early reflectors - larger diameter - and the means to hold it in place is also different. There is a little spring thing on the side to latch on to the bulb and one terminal for (presumably) earth. So, my question is - is there supposed to be some kind of wired base that slides on the back that will complete the circuit?

NE1 know what I'm talking about here?

for a "city light" bulb - intended to illuminate the headlight with a low wattage bulb when the parking lights are on. If so, the male spade clip would be for the ground lead, and the hot lead from the city light socket should be wired into the same circuit as the parking lights if you want the "city lights" on when the side markers and tail lights are illuminated.

Never seen one like that on any of my previous Euro '02s nor my current '74 Touring (Euro RHD).

I have the type in my picture. The main bulb is held in a spring-loaded contraption that has a tab on the outer ring to make contact with the side/parking light bulb. You push it into position and turn the outer ring a 1/4 turn thus making the contact and clamping the whole thing in position.

If that's truly an '02 reflector, then I would assume BMW had a different type of connector that may (?) still available. Couldn't find anything obvious on RealOem or W & N's catalogue though.

It's a Hella reflector purchased from W&N. Picture in their catalogue shows a bulb holder, but it is not detailed in the price list. Trying to source some seconds.......meanwhile I've cracked one of my new lenses trying to fit a new seal ##@@##!! - man those suckers are tight, I spent three hours on the first one b4 it finally came together. Anyone who complains about sealed beams should remember this!
