mounting 4 point harnesses

I'm in a dilemma trying to figure out what type of seat belt i will use in my car. I have the stock 2002 seatbelts along with e36 m3 seatbelts. The seats getting installed are e36 m3 seats from a 4 door. Now that car is going to have a rear seat delete installed so would it be better to just install 4 point harnesses. I've seen it done in a few cars and I read somewhere that if you ever autocross 4 point harnesses make a huge difference. Now dont say that they are a nuisance im not worried about that. Who here has 4 pt belts in your car? how did you mount them? pics please

i have a 6 point harness.

pictures are at http://www.kgb-racing.com/index.php?option=com_gallery2&Itemid=29&g2_itemId=46

mine are mounted to a bar behind the seat to keep them high enough. the bar i have is good enough for autocrossing, but might not be strong enough for a race track.

The lap belt is mounted tot he original seat belt mounts. They are strong enough and i think the thread type and size is the same as the bolts you get with the belt,. I need to check on that as i don't remember.

cam lock is a lot easier to operate then the lever type and well worth the additional money.

No photos, but in my first 02, I installed the shoulder harnesses in between the rear seats. I installed large eye bolts between the seats and then used clip type belts to attach to the eyes. That way I could remove them when not autocrossing or tracking the car. The lap belts were attached to the stock mounting points using the same eye bolts. I even added a sub belt with an eye bolt under the front of the front seat. I had a racing seat in that car and was able to do it without compromising the seat.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck,

Hey steve your setup looks nice, i do have a question tho. did you custam fab that bar or does someone make a bar like that specifically for the o2?

the bar is actually made by IO Port racing It is not specifically made for the 2002, but they have them in multiple size ranges and one of them fits the 2002. Measure the distance between the shoulder harness mount points and find the bar that fits.

The seats getting installed are e36 m3 seats from a 4 door.

I'd only use Scroth 4-point harnesses (street/track). M3 seats are not racing seats, the bolsters are not as big as the M3 coupe seats and you can't flip the seat forward to get access to the back. To top it off M3 seats weigh a friggen TON. Watch the leather wear as they age. Its not really that durable.

Scroth has approved mounting points for 3 and 4 points in an '02 if I remember right.
