Crane/Allison (700?) and tach adapter?....

My A4 has always had an Allison pointless ignition and a crusty little box below it that looks like a tach adapter. I recently ordered a new Crane/Allison ignition system, and the salesman told me that the tach adapter is not necessary. I also run a MSD6A box with this set up. I have a new MSD tach adapter ready to go if needed. For those of you running the Crane/Allison system( instead of the Pertronix), are you using a tach adapter? My mechanic maintains that the Pertronix does not handle high rpm well( I had Perpronix on my Sahara, but my redline was 500 rpm lower). I trust my mechanic's opinion totally. Any informationor experience from you will be most appreciated. Thanks . Jay.

I ran an XR 700 and MSD6AL on my M10 and needed the MSD tach adapter to get the factory tach working. It all worked fine up to the 8000rpm redline I was using, and continued to work well until I sold the motor.

I figured that the adapter would be needed for the MSD6A box, but I was unsure. Glad I have a new one already. The new system should be an improvement over the 20 year old system in place now. I appreciate your solid feedback. Thanks again. Jay
