S14 install header question

JT

Recommended Posts

Hi, S14 guys.. a quick question on engine installation..

Can the engine be dropped in with the header bolted on to the engine? or does it have to be bolted on the head after installation in the engine bay? Getting real close to that time...

Thanks!

Joel

You can leave it on.

Depending on what type header you have, the down pipe flange may get close to the sub framewhen you wiggle it onto the mounts.

If your header is cover it with a rag and tape it up. It would suk to chip one little spot and start the rust chain...

TJW are you still up? What are you doing up in HK? We have two clients that trade the NYSE so they work the 3rd shift over there - must really stink to work those hours!

Hey, I want my flush turn signals and cr steering box back! ;-) And the rear bumper!

By the way, there's a postage stamp on the back of the clock. Have a look and see what denomination it is. I put it there in 1989 I think, when I adjusted the clock!

Lemme know when it's on the road, maybe I'll come visit!

Cheers,

Ray

looks great joel. i recognize some parts myself. so this was rays car?? how difficult was it to get it to Guam??

I drove it to the Matson terminal in Long Beach/ Los Angeles in... 1999, and I believe they put it in a container. Cost for Joel was $600 IIRC.

I bought the car in 1982 from the original owner, with 100k miles on it at the time.

Heheh, modern living thru chemistry!

It was nice by the time I shipped it to him. Joel bought it sight unseen just after the bodywork refurb. The car was Ziebarted just after purchase by the original owner, but that did not stop the decay of the rockers and fenders. It was an east coast car for the first 18 years.

Cheers,

Ray, I think it was in 96-97 when I bought it from you. wow, that long ago?

Yeah, the paint job etc was/is superb.. I was stunned when I first saw it, like it was dipped in paint. Now theres a few rust bubbles popping up at the bottom of the door, rear fender lip area..but they're minor bubbles and I'll fix these up later on. But the paint is still very excellent! and looks like the only place I have to chop the body is where the intake tube and air filter have to pass thru. Other than that, it is unmolested..but still sad in a way to see a original tii not original anymore.

Too bad the bumpers just started shedding its chrome from rust a few years ago..I regret not taking better care of them, but I got a set of good chrome original fr and re bumpers and cleaned and coated them with "Glisten PC" clearcoat and ready to bolt on after its back in running cond.

I never took the clock out, but I'll remember about that postage stamp!

Hey Blunt, yep theres quite a few parts there that I got from you.. on the 02's..yes, I am certain that I have the only 2 on this island.. this 73tii, and also a 76 Auto. They both are sunny-day-only cars and mostly garage queens. :-) everyday drivers and they would rust to pieces..everytime the wind blows a bit (like now..) it blows ocean spray with it, and everything has a layer of salt on it.. even pretty far inland.. ah, living on a tropical island..haha

It was '97, now that I remember.

Remember, you agreed to sell it back to me anytime, for what you paid for it!
